Research into why animals are given up to shelters shows that the number one underlying reason is a behavioral problem. Often, simple behavioral problems can snowball to the point that owners become frustrated and feel powerless to improve the situation. That is why the Humane Pennsylvania works hard to help provide basic obedience training and behavior modification for pets in the shelter before they get adopted. Better trained pets mean better adoptions.
That’s also why Humane Pennsylvania encourages all pet owners to take advantage of high-quality, positive reinforcement based training programs. We partner with Awesome Dawgs Dog Training to provide a dynamic and informative program we call BARC (for Begin Animal Rescue Correctly) that is open to anyone who has adopted a dog. BARC is three 75-minute sessions. You can learn more about BARC and sign up for an upcoming series by contacting Awesome Dawgs.
