Furry First Friday @ Life & Legacies Studio
May 5 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Furry Fridays are our way of bringing together people with passions for art and animals alike, opening our shelters to the public and offering a space to mix and mingle after a long work week! We provide the art, food, drinks and entertainment, and you provide the fun and engaging atmosphere!

This month’s Furry Friday takes place at Life & Legacies Studio in the City of Lancaster, PA, with thanks to the generosity of Meredith Jorgensen for the use of this space. Tentative start time is 5 PM (may change at a later date). Our guest artist will be announced in the weeks to come and will surely bring with him/her a number of creative works of art for admiration and purchase! A “furry” surprise might make an appearance as well!

These shows are a great way to introduce people to our mission, get folks in to see animals for adoption, remind them that our adoption centers are happy and inviting places, and to show our appreciation for the artists in the region who have done so much through the years to raise funds and awareness for our mission by making some of our animal welfare supporters aware of their fantastic art. We hope to see you there!

Just how far will you go to help the animals? Keith Pierce plans to ride his bicycle 100 miles over the course of four days in order to raise $10,000 and build awareness for The Humane Society of Berks County and its Healthy Pets, Healthy Lives initiative!

For 21 years, Keith Pierce proudly served as a New Jersey K-9 unit officer. However, in 2011, his life took a turn for the worst when Keith found himself on the other side of the law. After making a bad choice, he served time behind bars. During Keith’s stay in prison, he was introduced to the Canine Partners for Life Prison Program, which allows inmates the opportunity to help train dogs that would eventually become service animals. He was able to help train several dogs while in prison, with his most recent trainee graduating in April.

Because of these dogs, Keith has dedicated his life to working with animals, volunteering at the Humane Society and performing the training they need to find loving and forever homes. But Keith isn’t stopping there! Healthy Pets, Healthy Lives is an initiative created by Humane Pennsylvania to help animals and their families lead better, healthier and overall happier lives together. To set this initiative in motion, Keith will pedal his way across bridges, through valleys and over rugged terrain alongside his biking buddy, Jim Kline, to inspire a healthier community among humans and furry friends alike!

Your contribution to Keith’s goal will promote Healthy Pets, Healthy Lives across southeastern Pennsylvania and beyond, encouraging pet owners to take advantage of the new and improved services and programs implemented by our organization with the help of individual and corporate donors. Financial emergency assistance for veterinary care, vaccination and microchip clinics, and a Trap-Neuter-Release program are just a few of the ways we’re helping to lead our pets and their families toward a path of better health and wellness, and it cannot be done without your support!

To learn more about Healthy Pets, Healthy Lives, visit our website.

Follow Keith’s route! He and Jim will start their journey from Pottsville on Tuesday, May 23 and will make four stops along the way – Leesport, Pottstown, Manayunk and Philadelphia. They’ll bike 25 miles per day and cross the finish line on Saturday, May 27 at the Philadelphia Zoo!

Help Keith go the distance and achieve his goal for the animals! Make a donation today!
