HOW DO PAY-WHAT-YOU-CAN CLINICS WORK? (PWYC Clinics) Prevention is the key to keeping your pet healthy and safe. Humane Pennsylvania’s Healthy Pets Initiative (HPI) makes preventative vaccines and microchips available to pet caretakers and pay whatever they can, based on what they can afford.
Although each vaccine or service has a value of $15, $20 or more, HPA’s priority at PWYC Clinics is to ensure we can help every pet get the preventative services they need, without worrying about cost. However, every dollar Humane Pennsylvania collects at these clinics allows us to pay it forward to those in need at the next clinic, so please pay what you can! There is no residency requirements for these services but appointments are strongly recommended, especially if you’re not local to Reading, PA.
Space is limited and clinic appointments are available online three weeks BEFORE the actual clinic date. The best time to look for new appointments is Thursday or Friday after each clinic. To save time and guarantee your pet is seen by the vet, book early and complete our online clinic form! Email us at healthypets@humanepa.org if you have questions.
PWYC Neighborhood Vaccination and Microchip Clinics offer:
- Rabies vaccines (1-year and 3-year, as needed; rabies is a disease that is fatal to humans and animals, and the law requires that every cat and dog be properly vaccinated).
- DA2PPV (dogs) or FVRCP (cats) vaccines (these vaccines prevent a wide variety of common diseases that can be fatal to pets, including distemper and parvo.
- Microchips (these are small devices, no larger than a grain of rice, that are implanted between a pet’s shoulder blades; when properly registered, they can help increase the odds that if your pet becomes lost you will be successfully reunited home).
IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW:
- You book your own appointment(s) online from this page, three weeks BEFORE the clinic date; book a separate appointment for each pet.
- Walk-ins without an appointment are not guaranteed to receive service
- All pets seen at Pay-What-You-Can Clinics must be handleable by our vet team. If your pet requires calming medication for their normal vet appointments, we will not be able to see them at our Pay-What-You-Can Clinics. You will need to schedule an appointment with Humane Veterinary Hospital – Reading.
- Using our online clinic form will save you time and effort at the clinic; we will email you a link and instructions after your appointment is booked and confirmed.
